New for 2010, 3 trips to choose from!

What are the Father/Son Expeditions?:
Father / Son Expeditions 2010 are an opportunity for a father & son to grow together. Helping to launch deeper relationships- with one another and Jesus Christ. Depending on your chosen activity; backpacking to altitude, learning how to use an ice ax, shooting the rapids, rapelling, summiting Mt. Adams*, focused times of learning, and experiencing God in the midst of these activities set these trips apart from anything you’ve probably ever done. Topics include: understanding my identity as a man, hearing God’s voice personally, and giving a blessing to your son. These topics will be discussed and experienced as a father/son and individually . We will look at questions such as: What does it mean to be a man?; Do I really have what it takes?; What is the deepest question that a man asks in his life?; & How can I hear God’s voice in the decisions I need to make now and in the years to come?  *conditions permitting

Who Can Come?:
This adventure is open to any father & son who want to grow closer together, and closer to Jesus Christ. (Minimum ages*: Mountaineering- 13, Backpacking- 12, Rafting- 12.) No previous experience is required- training will be provided. Anyone who is in reasonably good physical shape can participate. (Mountaineering trip is the most physically demanding, with rafting as the least demanding. Recommended exercise plans can be found in the Father/Son menu above.) Training by certified guides will be provided for each activity. *exceptions may be made, please call the office.

About The Leadership:

On The Edge Adventures (OTEA) is a not-for-profit outfitter/guide based on Mt. Hood in Oregon. Our mission is to make a positive impact in people; developing their character, leadership, and relationships with Christ. OTEA staff have been leading trips for over twenty years, and have an impecable safety record & an excitement to see people grow!  We plan to climb to the top of Mt. Adams at over 12,000 feet*, backpacking through incredible country, or raft the deschutes river- with high adventure & challenge in the backcountry! *conditions permitting

Teachings will be done by local ministry leaders.  David Valaer and Doug Phelps co-founded "Men's Bootcamp Northwest".  A ministry that provides retreats for men to rediscover who God has created them as men.  These retreats are based on Wild at Heart, the best-selling book by John Eldredge.  In addition, Evan Hanson is founder of "936 Weeks", a ministry that teaches Father's how to use the 936 weeks that a boy spends at home, to teach their sons what it means to be a man of God, and provide for them a rite of passage into manhood.  Evan will be taking the teaching responsibilities for one of the trips, while David and Doug each take the other two.
